Partner with us

The Centre’s partnership model is designed to create a clear pathway between research, knowledge generation and practical impact.

Who we work with

A pathway from research to impact

Universities and research institutions

Opportunities for co-authorship, doctoral and post-doctoral research fellowships, collaborative research programmes, joint funding applications, and the translation of academic research into policy and industrial applications.

Business and investors

Decision-relevant research and intelligence on emerging ST&I opportunities, industrial trends, policy developments and investment priorities, alongside structured opportunities to engage with the Centre’s research and data ecosystem.

Government and development partners

Independent, evidence-based research to inform ST&I policy, public-investment decisions, industrial strategy and regional industrialisation. Through this approach, the Centre seeks to strengthen the connection between scientific knowledge, innovation policy and inclusive economic growth.

Strategic partnership

Co-found and co-shape our research programme

The Centre invites a lead institutional partner to co-found and co-shape its research programme through a tailored, multi-year strategic partnership.

  • Lead institutional partner
  • Multi-year
  • Tailored to the partner

A strategic partnership would typically include

  • Flagship

    Co-branded research programme

Association with a defined research stream aligned to the partner’s strategic interests (for example the hydrogen economy, industrial innovation, or the digital and space economy), including co-branded flagship reports and a named annual research output.

  • Research advisory standing

A seat on the Centre’s Research Advisory Panel, giving the partner a formal voice in priority-setting and early sight of emerging findings and policy intelligence.

  • Evidence and intelligence access

Priority access to the Centre’s data ecosystem, briefings and decision-relevant analysis, together with tailored research responses to questions of strategic importance to the partner.

  • Convening and visibility

Prominent recognition across the Centre’s policy dialogues, symposia and publications, and standing invitations to the Forum’s flagship convening platforms, including the annual ST&I Public Lecture.

  • Talent and capacity pipeline

Association with the Centre’s fellowship and dual-education activities, connecting the partner to emerging researchers and co-supervised postgraduate work in its areas of interest.

How it comes together

A collaborative relationship, agreed jointly

  1. 1Shared objectivesTogether we agree the research priorities and outcomes the partnership should serve.
  2. 2Tailored configurationThe configuration, term and value are agreed jointly, shaped to the partner’s strategic interests.
  3. 3Memorandum of understandingAn MoU formalises the shared objectives, deliverables and governance.

The partner helps set research priorities, gains privileged access to the Centre’s evidence and networks, and shares in the standing of an independent, nationally significant research institution.

Turn the research-investment shortfall into innovation-led growth

By generating independent, decision-relevant research to an international standard, and by convening the institutions capable of acting upon it, the Centre offers a means of converting South Africa’s persistent research-investment shortfall into a coherent programme of innovation-led growth. We invite universities, research institutions and business partners to collaborate with the Centre as research and co-authoring partners across its thematic priorities, as founding and programme funders, as data partners, and as members of its Research Advisory Panel.
